NEW Linn Majik DSM/5 – A Serious Piece of Kit

Linn has been a pioneer of digital music streaming since the 2007 launch of its ground-breaking Klimax DS player, turning the UK hi-fi industry on its head. Again.
Some eighteen years of innovation and technology development later, today sees the launch of the fifth generation one of Klimax DS descendant products, Linn’s most accessible, all-in-one streamer – Majik DSM – and this one is leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessors.
Majik DSM/5 follows the styling of Linn Klimax and Sel ekt DSMs, with UV-printed Linn logo and trademark cut-glass, illuminated rotary control dial on top, curving into the sleek, button-less faceplate. It is significantly heavier and more robust than previous models, its build quality is markedly better, it has a more premium look and feel; but Majik DSM/5 is way more than just a facelift. It sets a new benchmark for all-in-one systems; it sounds so much better.
Majik DSM/5 combines a high-resolution music streamer, DAC, pre- and power amplifier in a one-box system that distils the best of Linn into a compact system to rival not just other one-boxes, but separates systems at twice the price. Majik DSM/5 is £4300, just add speakers.
It’s DAC features Linn’s proprietary precision clocking and up-sampling, generating a more accurate signal than previously. New, innovative Class D amplifiers introduce a post-filter feedback loop, dramatically reducing noise and distortion whilst improving efficiency. All circuitry is designed and populated entirely in-house and everything is housed in a precision-punched and folded 2mm-thick aluminium sheet, strengthened by 3 new, solid steel feet on rubber pads. This improved casework provides superior isolation for components, reducing unwanted vibration and increasing overall stability, all of which means better performance.

Control is via the Linn App, one of the best there is and Space Optimisation, Linn’s room correction software is included, guaranteeing optimum performance no matter the size, shape or construction of your listening space.
Older Majik versions and particularly DSM/4 have been considered by some to be a little lightweight and lacking power, but Linn seems to have addressed both issues with Majik DSM/5. We’ve had it running in the dem room for a week now and it is singing.
